My Pursuit of Happiness
Ok, this is AMERICA. There is no reason to lie, cheat, steal… unless you want to be AWESOME. But don’t fuck people over to get to the MIDDLE, you’d betray everything that America is about. We didn’t throw Britain’s tea into the ocean because we wanted to be a mediocre country and we didn’t let those fuckers line up in a line and then shoot them in the back because we DIDNT want to be one of the best countries in the world. And we’re not giving China an IOweU because we plan on ACTUALLY paying it back. This is America, the land of opportunity to fuck people over, to take whatever isn’t yours but only if you plan on getting to the top of the mountain and waving what you have, and what they don’t, in their face. That’s America.

Preparation

The most important thing in wrestling is preparation. An individual can have the greatest natural athleticism in the world and still be beat if they lack the proper preparation. A lot goes into the training for a seven minute bout. Both the physical and mental faculties of a wrestler must be trained.

Apprehension

The future is a terrifying thing. “What do you want to do with your life?” is the question I find myself asking more and more. If you are in high school or college and you know exactly what you are going to do with your life you are either very lucky or a fool. I of course was one of those fools. How my goals and plans have changed from a mere five years ago. Now I find that I am a traveler without a compass who cannot see the stars.

Inspiration

My best ideas come when I’m not thinking. That is when my mind is free to wander. I get my best stories, ideas, and concepts when I mow the lawn or go for a run. When I get the chance to zone out and stop worrying about life. Those are my moments of zen where I am free to dream.

Northern Tides

I have not posted for a good while on here. Currently I am living in the barracks at The Citadel taking summer courses for the majority of the season. I am re-approaching and re-evaluating my goals. Most importantly I am working towards obtaining my degree and starting my life. I have recently began a literary journal where I have been writing short reflections and stories. I will be coping them to this blog. It is a personal project with no correlation to school. However I hope to gain comfort with the task of writing. I have never really enjoyed writing. For the most part I have always hated the task. However I have things to say and stories to tell. Grammar, structure and spelling can go to hell. I will write the way it makes sense to me. To quote from a great film: “You must write your first draft with your heart.  You rewrite with your head.  The first key to writing is to write, not to think!” Finding Forrester (2000) - William Forrester (Sean Connery). I intend to do just that.

El Cid gifs are awesome!

Finally went for a run!

And it felt good. 5 miles today, 5 tomorrow and so on… Time to lose the belly and rebuild the muscle.

The Rules revisited…

When I began this blog I made it to hold myself accountable. However a while ago I let myself fall off track. After reevaluating my posts I can see where I started and where I am at now. I know the mistakes I have made and I know how to correct them. I will be starting fresh with stricter guidelines for myself. What follows is a revised set of the rules. I will be tracking my progress weekly on here. The end of school is in sight, I need to focus and get it done.

The Rules:

  1. Be selfish and take care of yourself before worrying about others.
  2. Always be open to try new things.
  3. Find balance between work and play. Don’t overdo it on either end.
  4. Do at least one thing every day to improve yourself.
  5. Get to the point. Always be clear and concise in your statements.
  6. Do not get bogged down in the details.
  7. Set out on a task and complete it. Then move on to the next one.
  8. Keep lists of tasks, chores, and assignments. Make progress on these lists.
  9. Accomplish something everyday.
  10. Take everything one day at a time.
  11. Stay in touch. Communicate. Seek help when you need it.
  12. When writing tell a story.
  13. Do not be too wordy, write how you speak.
  14. Writing block does not exist if you lower the standards enough.
  15. Limit your use of the internet and social media.
  16. Get out of the barracks.
  17. Study in a better environment with less distractions.
  18. Have an intelligent conversation with some one everyday.
  19. Sleep at night, use your days to the fullest. Naps are just wasted hours of daylight. The most important sleep you can get is before midnight. Have better sleeping habits.
  20. Read a book/newspaper everyday. Learn something new everyday.
  21. Workout everyday! Run, lift, swim, or whatever. Just do something. Get back into shape.
  22. Eat better. Lay off the junk food.
  23. Treat yourself but only when you earn it.
  24. Become a Natural.
  25. Build your confidence and self esteem. Always work to improve.
  26. Remember there is no such thing as perfection. However you should always strive to be your best.
  27. Develop your relationships, build contacts, and network.
  28. Show others the respect you expect in return.
  29. Budget your money. Make smart purchases. Do not be wasteful. Know the value of your money.
  30. No excuses, own up to your mistakes, and learn from them. Ownership.
  31. Lead by example.
  32. You say something follow up on it. Keep your word. In the end, besides your name, that is all you have.
  33. Finish strong and as fast as possible.
  34. Remember the sacrifices others have made for you.
  35. Do not be lazy. Work hard and work smart.
  36. Do not let yourself be distracted. Focus on what you want.
  37. No one is going to give it to you. You have to take it.
  38. Have faith in yourself and others.
  39. Believe in something, and follow those beliefs.
  40. “Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” - unknown
Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

What I am looking for in a woman

She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go for it; she likes her man to be a man but still be able to show his emotions. Balance is important to her; she works hard enough but her job doesn’t consume all her energy. She enjoys the nice things in life, but is also spiritual and doesn’t get fully caught up in the quest for material goods. She wants a man in her life, but doesn’t need one. She knows that she and her man will be worth more together than apart. She enjoys the simple things in life but can also be spontaneous. She likes to travel to far-off places, relax on sandy beaches under a hot sun, and then cool off in the sea, but she also likes the hustle and bustle of a busy city. This contrast and balance are part of her character. She is centered and content, but being with people she cares about is important to her. She is kind and considerate and would like to be her naturally caring self with people who have earned her trust. She wants a man who understands her - one she doesn’t need to tell what she wants, but who just knows. A man who can be the closest person to her, to help her make decisions, and to always be there and offer his strength when she needs it. She doesn’t expect to find him right away, but she’ll know when she does.
